Retailers in Bongland had a massive sale on the PSVR2 this weekend knocking almost £200 off the price. At £329, it was at impulse buy price so I impulsively bought it.
My Review
It's good.
This was my first ever time trying anything VR related so I didn't know what to expect. I was kind of concerned with frame rate, movement tracking accuracy and speed and other than that had no idea what to expect.
The main things I didn't like which came as a surprise was the unintuitive way that you don't have to use your eyes to focus on anything. Everything is just in focus. I didn't expect some sort of magic to get around this issue, I just hadn't considered it.
Another thing is the so-called "sweet spot" where the whole visual quality relies on you strapping it to your head in the optimal place. Just assumed there'd be something a bit more high tech going on but nope. Put it on slightly wrong and everything is blurred.
Then the nature of all lenses but particularly these ones, sharpness and picture quality at the edges is way worse than at the centre so you're better off turning your head to look at things rather than looking with your eyes.
Of the games I tried, the Horizon one was so incredibly detailed and good looking but also boring. GT7 was phenomenal. The cockpits look real and you notice details like reflections on plastic trim and leather seats that you don't notice on screen. I drove a car in GT7 that I used to own in real life and it was very accurate to real life.
I also played a rollercoaster game which gave me notion sickness. Very common apparently, but this in particular made me want to puke with the sensation of staying still but moving fast. Weird.
One major downside is there's no VR video support so no 3D movies or VR porn. Very disappointing but this is a software issue in that Sony and no one else has bothered making the apps. Shame.

Shit. Does it work with PC yet? If so, looks like it might be time to snap(py) one up

They've released updates for PC support but it lacks some of the cooler features that the PS VR2 boasts like eye tracking.
