You're a KiA mod iirc so I assume you know or at least have an educated and informed guess as to the why of it—I've thought about it on and off over the years and haven't been able to come up with any explanation, why do vidya companies do this? It's not like they're just removing the bikini chainmail concept, which I can see an argument for even if I don't necessarily agree with acting on it, but they make every single woman character just completely unsightly and ridiculous and it's always in the same ways. To get to your point though, video game companies are absolutely terrified of being accused of objectifying women by journos. It's a controversy that they go too far in trying to avoid, so you end up with all their female characters being buttfrick ugly.
G*mers definitely want hot women, but bonuses in the industry are usually tied to critic review scores rather than sales, so they have to pander to woke journos instead of the audience.

Not really, no. Once OG G*merGate wrapped up the community wanted to broaden into general anti-woke politics at a time when I and other jannies like Hat had little appetite for it.
In hindsight they were kinda right, the creeping leftoid takeover of every hobby space did happen. Even Reddit fell. Nonetheless it was such a difficult sub to run that I wasn't going to do it for free.

I think it's a combination of bad technical ability and bad social ability amongst the dev team.
We don't have the technology to make actually lifelike characters so development teams need good artists who know how to push far enough that the game is considered to have 'good graphics' while making the characters cartoony enough to avoid them looking weird and uncanny. That pic above tries (and fails) to be too realistic which ends up looking odd and a bit disgusting.
Regarding social stuff, I don't think many people really know why less attractive characters are considered as good. They just take it as a universal truth that more ugly = more good and mindlessly push for characters to look like uggo weirdos. People like non-model looking characters because it makes characters seem real and relatable, but neurodivergent devs just don't understand that.

FWIW, I have been a KiA2 mod for years (since its inception), and still am. And since I'm a rightoid, I may be able offer a unique perspective relative to
@Prophet_Pinnacle.
I think he's right about the whole objectifying thing, but I think there's also another factor which is sometimes overlooked. After all, they could still make the character's FACE attractive, and not have much skin showing. But too often they look like a door knob.
So in summary, I tend to think that game devs/high-ups don't tend to value beauty as much as g*mers and/or rightoids. Maybe because they're a bit lefty and they emphasize other traits such as intelligence or 'character'. And not to forget bending their knee to the DEI beast (which was and probably still is heavily funded), any other principles can be discarded more easily. They also like to make women in games look quite masculine and "strong" (maybe related to the train or non-binary stuff).

It's not an rpg? At all? It's literally a goofy open world few city blocks where you do bizarre missions and go nuts with hundreds of minigames and the actual gameplay is a fighting game.
