I'm working on a big rant about how disappointing RDR2 is and was gonna do the same for GTA5 but I honestly can't remember much of anything from that game

Yeah no, he has a point, RDR2 builds up all this hype about being a simulationist open world with a lot of customisation and tons of things to do... only to completely disconnect it from the story and effectively make all the choices you make (and the gameplay options you'd have) in freeroam irrelevant.
Don't even get me started on the honor system also affecting the story and doing its best to make your mass-murdering MC totally a good boah because you say hello to people and release fish back into the water after catching them or, conversely, the devil incarnate because you keep shooting the poor, poor law doggies as they try to tear your throat out (shooting their owners is perfectly fine though)

It's not an in-depth rpg, it's meant to be gta with nice looks and a protagonist who isn't a caricature of crime. The point of honor is that you can still do whatever you want, it doesn't actively hinder you. But if you want the good ending of the game then you can't act like a complete psychopath.
Is the fact murder is equal to greeting people weird? Yeah but if they had to have you spend hours working at an orphanage it'd be a whole lot less fun

I could've maybe tolerated 4 if the driving wasn't especially awful (how did they frick this up?)
5 was great but I kinda got bored of the story 2/3rds through and greedy online dlc killed any future story beats
SA was stupid fun but even the developers admitted they just threw every mechanic they could think of and it ended up being a pretty messy game with a lot of half-baked mechanics
3 is amazing PS2 kino but its age shows. If you go back and play it you may be shocked at how many missions are very simplistic time trials. The second and third islands are also nowhere near as fun as the first. The first island in GTA3 is the best environment in any GTA game though by far.

idk why but I tried playing 4 multiple times and just hated every part of it. oh well
But yea the story in 5 loses steam in the 3rd act for sure, but it didn't bother me cause I'd just go blast some music in a Lambo and shoot up downtown for a bit. Looked incredible for it's time
Vice City was my first and I couldn't believe a game would let you just snipe a hooker running away from you on the street and show their head pop off then you take their money
