They seem to have borrowed Humanitiy (paradox game)'s dumbest idea. Changing civ ruins the LARP. The LARP is why you can sell Scotland and Australia DLC for $10 plus tip. Its a huge part of the appeal.

Its better for gameplay im sure, but worse for appeal

If their concern is that a single Civ is only relevant for whatever eras its unique building/unit is in they could just... add more of those per Civ?
