The Quanari were entirely and utterly ruined in inquisition when they made them playable but with no options to actually roleplay as one. Any mystique they had was destroyed. Idk why they even bother bringing them back to this game.
TBH I think it was pretty clear that DA:I was probably originally meant to be played as Human and Elf only since the story is tied mostly around those two races (Humans with the Chantry and the Dalish Elves with Solas, the Orlesian Dales, the Veil stuff and the late game + Tresspaser DLC pretty much focus on the elven pantheon)) but then they decided to add in Dwarves and Qunari in because people complained so much about being locked in as Hawke in DA2.
DA2 had the best story in all of DA (yes even origins) as well as the best character relationships system (friend vs rival) specifically because the writers made the story scope much smaller than the previous "save the world" titles.
It was only really held back by the lack of actual gameplay and environment development.
