I think they have money, I just don't think they were actually going to buy the games anyway. It's like how sometimes rightoids complain about woke stuff being inserted into products or media they weren't buying anyway. Crazy to think that people have made a hobby about complaining about inclusivity in video games, you would figure that well dried up long ago. Well, they probably are technically g*mers, but just have like 5k+ hours in stardew valley or something.

I think a lot of the early ones were academics or jurnos who saw a social cause they supported and jumped on it even though they have little to no interest in videos games. Now it's soys and women who have a little bit more gaming overlap. Along with trains who actually do play the games they try to change but that's a whole other issue.

Kids are sensitive to the rule of cool and most of the millennial developers don't realize they've aged into not really being part of that. I think they underestimate how easily they can tilt into "lame" territory, I don't think companies like Ubisoft will ever recover.
