Wish they did more with the gameplay. I just play it as a visual novel and it's pretty good for that. But the weird limbo they've designed it into where they wanted it to be simultaneously complex to satisfy their core audience as well as simple to satisfy a mobile audience just makes for a shitty game where I put all my strongest clashers into the team and press the autoplay button. Should have just ported ruina's gameplay into a gacha format.

I think its becoming more pervasive as people's pattern recognition is constantly triggered. That Ghosts of Yotei trailer had tons of people jumping at shadows in the comments simply because of a female protagonist. All this wokeshit has conditioned people into immediately assuming the worst the second you see even just one correlation. There's obviously nothing wrong with a female protagonist in a game, but when the last 20 major releases in a row made a point of them being obnoxious, condescending, or just generally shitty games, people form expectations based off that experience.
I won't go as far as to pretend a majority of g*mers care about this, but it definitely seems a lot bigger than the amusing spergfest that GG1 was. Even the "chuds" aren't looking for a game that preaches the virtues of TND, they just want cool fantasy escapism back when modern games that actually provide it are few and far between.

Yeah stuff like female protagonists used to be fine but people have eyes and can see. Assuming any game with a female lead will be trash is like assuming a gacha game will be an unfun skinner box that only exists to steal your money. Sure, theoretically it is possible to make a game that has those but is good, but anyone paying attention to the state of the industry will know it won't be.

gaming has always been for manchildren. The only female protagonists or charachters have been eye candy for the men.
The flipside of that is that women absolutely refuse to play ugly female charichters because it is fatal for their escapist fantasy. They don't really like any sort of conflict either unless it's a beautiful woman conflicted over what stunning handsome men are fighting over her.
Women won't play anything other than like the sims. They aren't hard-wired to enjoy most games and as such wont ever be a signifigant market. Adding whedonesque dialog and minorities aren't going to attract an entirely different demographic to action games

The only exception I can think of is NOLF and no one complained about it, because it was good. And it came out well before the current culture war brainrot.
And no, Samus doesn't count, literally no one knew or could tell the protag wasn't just another faceless male.
That's really the core of it, really. Neurodivergent foids (and
s) keep thinking they're one well-written game away from evening out the gender distribution of games, in complete denial of the fact that men and women simply have fun in different ways, literally from birth, and video games are as male as firetrucks and steam locomotives.

I don't think that's really true though, just that the AAA devs are going about it entirely the wrong way. Almost half of genshins' playerbase is female and that not only directly affects the size of your audience, but it also has a knock-on effect on cultural impact, as well as giving guys more reason to play the game.

that's the thing, people have been conditioned now to expect it to be shit via the south park meme of put a chick in it and make her lame and gay. It's happened so many times in media there's plenty of reasons people will immediately assume the worst. I said with Yotei allowances should be made as the game was put into preproduction with big decisions like the protag made probably years ago at this point. It's definitely unfair to just assume the worst with that game but I am certain considering current climate in video games they would NOT have decided to go forward with a female protag if they could have seen into the future when said decision was made.
The game will probably be good, certainly has a better shot than the fricking dumpster fire that is butt creed shadows. No amount of delays is going to fix that mess.
The only exception to this recently would be steller blade and that game was unapologetically coomer bait that just happened to be a decent action souls like.

You could always just play a demo of the game before deciding if you want to buy it. Maybe pirate it and then you can buy it later if you thought it was really good (I did this with Rimworld for example, an indie game that's good).
