I can't describe how disappointed I was when finally got to try absinthe and it just gets you drunk like any other liquor and finding out the stories of people hallucinating were propaganda to make it look bad.

It doesn't even make sense hallucinating green fairys sounds cool wtf why would that make me not want to drink it.

Liquorice is a good flavor

From what I noticed over time it seems like a lot of Americans hate Liquorice.

It's more black licorice, which is a controversial flavor anywhere.

Is that not the flavor?

Unless you're talking about "licorice" as in "gummy candy" which can be any flavor whatsoever (ie apple, strawberry, etc.) and has no actual "licorice" flavor. But "black licorice" is the flavor of the licorice plant.

They don't use the licorice flavor from the plant anymore. They usually use anise as a replacement.

In America at least, red licorice is far more popular.

I'm not a nerd, so I don't know the process of making licorice.

Assuming you're talking about this kind of stuff

it has literally nothing at all to do with "licorice" in any way. No relation to the plant or flavor. It's just gummy candy. (One of my personal faves, it's really good, but still just candy.)

Licorice just means candy that's in a twisted shape, and any definition that came before is outdated and uncivilized.

it's a plant bb https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquorice was so long before it meant candy that was originally flavored with the plant https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquorice_(confectionery)

so uncivilized, abstinthe is one of the best cocktail ingredients

Jump in the discussion.

Yeah because its not the absinthe of old times with 90% methanol and a lot of other weird shit in it. These days its just normal liquor.

Green absinthe is green because of copper sulfate

ALL my worst decisions have been made after drinking absinth. I really wish it was hallucinagenic because it would have at least been more fun.

Maybe I don't have a very refined pallet but it tasted a bit like Jager without the sugar and more liquorice. And it just gets you drunk no green fairies.

It's just strong liquor. It does get you pretty drunk though.

You can't buy real absinthe these days. The stuff they call Absinthe isn't much different than Jagermeister.

I actually had Marilyn Manson's absinthe. It was probably the least-good absinthe I ever bought, but Lucid wasn't that much better.
