Guess what!! The law of thermodynamics is meant for a CLOSED SYSTEM. Is your body a closed system? Absolutely not. The “calories in, calories out” model is BS for the majority of the population. In fact, science barely understands how calories are actually processed in the body. Body fat is typically determined by gut bacteria, hormones, and genetics rather than caloric intake. I highly recommend listening to “The Trouble with Calories” episode of the podcast “Maintenance Phase”. They analyze actual scientific sources that show that weight loss is far more complicated than the amount of calories that a person consumes.

Holy shit. I once lost 11 kilos (24lbs) in 3 months when I felt I was too fat for my own good. 15lbs/6kg in almost a year is ridiculous.

The initial weight loss is the elimination of 500 grams of glycogen, stored in about 10 pounds of water. Once it's depleted you piss like a racehorse for a day.

After that is constant fat burn. If you decide to go off keto, but maintain calories, you'll gain back the water weight as you store glycogen.

Not sure exactly, but it's a commonly self reported side effect that was definitely noticeable when I was doing keto. My personal theory is being in ketosis probably has a bunch of knock on effects on other metabolic pathways, including processing alcohol, since ketone metabolism and alcohol metabolism both occur in the liver.

Ketones are actually produced in the liver from fat. It's how your body is able to utilize the energy in your dietary fat and fat stores. When you're sleeping or fasting you burn through free glucose first and then ketosis produces ketones to keep providing energy until you eat next.

The idea behind the keto diet is that by limiting carbs in your diet (target is usually less than like 30g a day) your body enters a continuous state of ketosis. This was initially developed to treat epileptics, since blood glucose is linked to incidence of seizures I believe, but some people have found that it's also good for losing weight, with the theory being that already being in ketosis removes the lag phase between burning your dietary glucose and when ketosis kicks in to start burning your fat stores.

Anecdotally, I lost about 30 lbs by switching to a keto diet for about 4-5 months. The weight loss was due to calorie counting, but I found keto helped stick to the diet because I never felt super hungry once I was in ketosis.

Edit: to answer your actual question because I'm a sperg, nah ketones are not particularly toxic. One of the symptoms of diabetes is overproduction of ketones which can frick with your bodies ph balance (ketones are acidic) but that's only because diabetics already have a fricked up metabolism. Entering ketosis as a result of fasting or a keto diet shouldn't cause that issue, since you're burning those ketones for energy.
