[Effort] Gamedevs dunk on webshit startup, founder bussy blasted

"Mighty" is a startup that will sell you a subscription to stream your browser from a supercomputer instead of running it on your own PC. It is as r-slurred as it sounds.

The idea is that instead of making a browser with sane resource usage and forcing webdevs to learn to code they can allow the hellish cycle of Andy and Bill's law to continue for a few more decades while pocketing that sweet sweet subscription revenue. If that last sentence was gibberish to you click here.

Game developers, having one of the few jobs that require writing performant code, have always been jealous of webdevs for getting all the clout and money while churning out unusable garbage. Predictably, they start frothing with rage making tweets such as:

Very hard to describe how embarrassing this is for everyone involved in the Web and, sort of, software more generally.https://t.co/eR4G9Sg8iK

— Jonathan Blow (@Jonathan_Blow) April 27, 2021
-

Running a browser to connect to the cloud to run a browser to connect to the cloud to retrieve the contents of a single 2D page to recompress and send back to the original browser is now "the future of computing". https://t.co/3DPs9tkQjF

a truly terrifying thing to read in a recruitment pitch pic.twitter.com/KHsLOjnC8k

— Gabe K (@gabe_k) February 9, 2021

This caused the startup founder, as well as investors, to get defensive. Culminating with the founder writing a poem about the haters:

Writing a song with someone for all the haters this past month. Sneak peek:

you always got something to say
I think you like the attention
helps you to not feel small
you’re watching, you sit and wait
every time that I get a mention
you wanna see me fall

— Suhail (@Suhail) May 19, 2021

More dunking:

For the record, efficient 2D page display doesn't "appear simple" to me. It actually is simple, at least compared to other things we do. It only appears complicated to the web industry because it's the hardest graphics problem they've tried - and repeatedly failed - to solve. https://t.co/MrBfdV0Tie

— Casey Muratori (@cmuratori) April 27, 2021
-

… but this is the most compact explanation I have seen.https://t.co/rlF0rrUGTl

— Jonathan Blow (@Jonathan_Blow) September 2, 2022

The founder is still mad, passive aggressively replying with single emojis:

What :marseywtf2: an incredibly r-slurred :marseyautism: idea. Thank you for posting.

Hi :marseywave:

  • 61

It's not r-slurred, it's just :marseyblops2chadcel: implemented by r-slurs

  • 13

Explain how running a web browser :marseybraveglow: in the cloud :marseyrain: isn't the most r-slurred :marseyautismchonker: thing imaginable.

Hi :marseywave:

  • 42

It's much cheaper to rent a 3080 for $100/yr than it is to buy a new 3080 for $1000 (and the rest :marseytombstone: of the system) and sell it in 10 years for $50. Plus you don't need

https://www.ign.com/articles/nvidia-geforce-now-review

  • 6

This isn't cloud :marseyrain: computing, this is literally running chrome on someone else's computer :marseyfbicomputer: and streaming video :marseycapypunished: to yours.

Hi :marseywave:

  • 39

Its still cloud :marseyrain: computing if the outputs are video :marseysephiroth:

  • 7

What :marseygasp: kind of videos require a 3080 to watch? Even the tiny :marseytiny2: GPUs integrated on current laptop CPUs can handle 4k.

  • 24

You don't need a 3080 to play vidya :marseygamer: if you have nvidia now. That's the point.

do you not understand that your local browser :marseybrave: still has to download all the data :marseychartbar: from your "cloud browser" and decompress them in order to display :marseyidio3: them?

>rent a 3080 for $100/yr

Current pricing for an rtx 3080 in the cloud :marseyrain: is $0.30/h. That's $2700 per year :marseychiobulove: at full 24/7 usage, $1000 per year :marseychiobulove: at average 5 hours per day.

  • 17

Yeah :marseyagree: streaming video :marseykatamarireddit: is ez pz compared to running a game. Even an iPad can do that.

Nvidia now isn't 2700/yr

  • 19

here is an ad they made:

  • 11

I hate :marseygoodnight: people who have that many :marseymanysuchcases: tabs open.

And there's nothing that says "Trust us with you money, :marseyluckycat: we're not a bunch of kinds trying to run a business!" like the use of memes and out of date internet :marseysaladfingers: humor.

The time has come for the Necromaster. The unleashing of the fourth joker's card. The arrival of The Great Milenko

  • 14

What :marseypregunta: an ignorant comment. Do you even know  how a computer :marseybsod: works? Having a lot of tabs open doesn't slow :marseywhirlyhat: anything down. And memes and internet :marseysaladfingers: humor :marseysting: are just :marseyblops2chadcel2: a way to connect with people. If you can't handle a little :marseyelliotrodger: bit of fun, then :marseytransflag: you can't handle anything.

  • 4

I don't give :marseysigh: a frick :marseyracistgrandpa: about the performance issues that open tabs cause, it's an aesthetic thing. It just :marseyblops2chadcel2: LOOKS wrong. But you're not capable of understanding that, and I sympathize.

Memes and emojii are great :marseyaward: for communication, yes, and we all love :marseychristmaslove: @Ed_ButteredToast, but I'd never :marseyitsover: invest :marseywallst: in any business of theirs!

The time has come for the Necromaster. The unleashing of the fourth joker's card. The arrival of The Great Milenko

  • 5

The only aesthetic that matters is results, and your insistence on sacrificing performance for an arbitrary visual standard is foolish and short-sighted. If you can't see the value in efficiency, then :marseytransflag: I pity your lack of vision. As for investing in businesses that favor style over :marseyitsover: substance, I have more faith in them than I do in you.

  • 3

I totally value efficiency over :marseyitsover: aesthetics, but like you said having multiple tabs open doesn't effect efficiency.

And if you have money :marseymerchantelf: to burn throwing :marseybreadcrumbing: it at our pasta connoisseur more power :marseyreactor: to you!

That is the culmination of bussy-blasting someone, you have peaked as a troll :marseybongojanny: when you rectally ravage someone so hard :marseydiehard: they break out the iambic pentameter and seance the bard in a futile attempt to soothe their singed semen-stop.

  • 5

For the record, efficient 2D page display :marseyidio3: doesn't "appear simple" to me. It actually :marseyakshually: is simple,

i know  nothing about browsers but even i know :marseyhesright: this is giga brainlet :marseysmugretard: take.

  • 8

Where :marseydrama: is the lie tho? Just :marseyblops2chadcel2: write where :marseydrama: the stuff is on the screen :marseybsod: every frame and you are done :marseyclapping:

  • 11

the only reason anything on the internet takes more than a second to load is because of incompetent web developers that should unironically be dragged out into the street, charged for their brainlet tier code, and shot in the head point blank several times with a 12 gauge. words can not describe how moronic webdevs are. there shouldn't be a single webpage in the last 15 years that takes more than a blink of the eye to load on even shitty internet (content like images not withstanding), but because these genuinely brain dead :marseytunaktunak: tier silicon valley shitlords think that putting 50 gigabytes of JSON and other webcel tier bloat in their shitty fricking website is a good idea you still have people struggling to load it on devices that should have zero issues with it.

Web devs are the lowest of the low r-slurs that you scrape off the side of a nearby sidewalk, expose to the sun for a little while, and teach to code. they're subhuman trash that should be shot outside of minecraft.

  • 11

see, i agree with you. browsers are plenty fast, it's just that the whole web platform was not built for the kind of websites we use nowadays and there are too many ways for a developer to frick up and make everything slow to down shit.

which btw validates the proposal of a cloud browser: "web devs are going to frick up, we run everything on a super computer and send you an optimized video stream"

  • 4

If your web page is so shitty I need a 35 dollar subscription to use it I will just go to a different website. Hardware won't keep letting webdevs get away for it for much longer.

  • 9

"They're morons, so let's give them a platform to make their r-sluration more acceptable instead of them realizing they can't act like morons when they hit the wall harder than your average white woman"

if that's validation then you're a heckin valid xueen :marsoy:

Every web developer should hang themselves, and the ones that don't should be shot. The entire thing should be torn down. frick Javascript, frick Jquery, frick JSON, frick the absolute morons that abuse and bloat their shitty websites

at least that one made some sense when phones were slow :marseyretard: and shit :marseypickle: I guess :marseyshrug: :marseyshrug:
