The judge did make the comment that she didn't think it was credible. The law, at least, has to take it seriously so it won't come back to haunt them.
The other people, I'm not sure. Showing everyone how offended you are has been the norm for so long, I suspect people just go along withit without any thought as to whether or not it's true.
