I unironically think they banned our domain because they were mad we made a website.
When the admins say they have spent a lot of time on our subreddit they aren't joking. Before they basically shut us down we used to be in constant contact with them asking about minute details of rules, what we can allow etc so we knew where they drew the line in the sand and at one point even had our own private groomercord channel with an admin we could bounce questions off of. This is all on top of dealing with the people that hated us and whined about us constantly. They spent a lot of resources on our tiny little heaven and I think the sunk cost fallacy of it all is why they gave us so many chances and never banned us.
Then we made a website and basically told them to eat shit, nullifying all of their time and effort spent on one of the few unique communities their shitty website has. In their anger they had a kneejerk reaction to just ban the domain.
In a way it's a good thing because now we don't have to worry about them banning our domain and can literally do w/e we want.

The internet was at its best in the late 90s/early 00s. Everyone agrees on this. It wasn’t at its prettiest or most functional, but it was definitely its most fun. What we’re trying to do here is recreate the feel of that era, coupled with (gradually) bringing back the robust and highly customizable personal profile options offered by platforms like MySpace. That’s a ways off though. But the profile will be the crux of the long-term user experience. I’m not posting any concepts for it for awhile, but you’ll all like it.
Old mechanics from the internet at its best, paired with the finest aspect of Web 2.0 days, leveraged by current technological capabilities.
Everything went to shit when the internet became ubiquitous and everything became soulless and corporatized. Every site these days has a battery of perfectly functional, easy to use, and entirely unremarkable, joyless checklist items. And that was inevitable and is fine. The internet has stabilized, and the platform-begets-platform model has just about run its course. Like brick and mortar businesses, it’s entirely likely that your grandchildren will have Reddits and Twitters and Facebooks and shit. These are unassailable forever-companies.
And the problem with new sites is they recognize the past pattern of like Facebook-begets-MySpace, Reddit-begets-Digg, etc., and they develop and operate under the misconception that this is how it will always be. That’s not the case anymore. Everyone is trying to be The New X instead of doing something new. The way forward lies not in becoming Walmart 1.1 or 2.0, but in gunning to become the best regional muffler shop chain or what the frick ever.
