Honestly I can sympathize with her about the job thing. I make low six figures now but I was very poorly paid throughout my 30s because I was a little neurodiverse and at the time I stupidly thought that the key to success in the corporate world was talent and achievements rather than sucking up to inbred executive r-slurs who are too arrogant to tolerate criticism. Once I figured out what the real metrics were, I got better at playing the game (not that I'm great at it now or anything), but for some people it can take a while to catch the clue bus.
