They:
do not want to be your pet.
will knock over all of your shit.
are awake at times incompatible with humans (nocturnal).
can give you a serious infection if they scratch you.
WILL scratch you for no reason at any time.
MIGHT allow you to pet them once every month, but will scratch you for no reason afterwards.
They are the lazy man's pet, and a bad one at that. Rats make far better pets than cats if you're so lazy you can't get a dog.
Dogs will:
love you unconditionally.
let you pet them whenever you want.
never hurt you.
protect you from intruders.
devour the annoying neighbor's toddler.
teach you to be more responsible, hold a better daily routine, and even get your fat butt some exercise.
usually not break your shit.
Obviously there are poorly trained or aggressive dogs but even the most well-behaved cat will be aggressive.

Yeah, Reddit is a for-profit company. It's still worth it to volunteer moderation duties to ensure that people have a corner to discuss and debate without having to worry about bullies. Sure, it would be nice to get a free subscription to Premium or something, but that's not going to be the main motivation.
I use uBlock Origin. This is my way of paying back the site. Well, that and all the awards I give away or generate.
And believe you me, I very much enjoy moderating bullies and keeping vulnerable populations safe from their bullying. Clicking "ban" on some random racist so they can't call someone names? Ohhhh that's payment enough.
