I fricking hate bagels. They taste bad, have a weird texture, they’re difficult to tear apart with your teeth and chew, the have a tendency to get little chunks stuck in your teeth especially if they’re topped with seeds, every flavor of them sucks and doesn’t remotely resemble the flavor they’re supposed to taste like (e.g. blueberry, cinnamon raisin), they’re not really healthy at all, they smell bad, and on top of it all I’m almost convinced that eating them gives me headaches. Seriously. Bagels are just the worst.
yes, I’ve toasted them before and they’re still bad that way too. There are flakes that get everywhere too when you eat them toasted.

Bagels are delicious

Wrong. You need to salvage them with a pound of fat to make anything edible.
Same goes for breakfast muffins tbf

Who thought "I know, I'll boil bread before baking it" and what does it add, nothing! In fact it ruins it, makes the outside weirdly tough. And I have no idea why they're so popular and why entire chains revolve around them. Every time you have a bagel, remember you just wasted a perfectly good sandwich filling or toast topping.
They do look good though...which just adds to the disappointment.

Compared with any other breakfast pastry/cookie/quick bread, bagels are awful. I much prefer sourdough toast, muffins, banana bread, danish, donuts, scones, kolache, croissant, biscotti, pandoro, sfogliatelle, biscuits, pancakes, waffles...anything except bagels.
I seriously don't know how bagels are popular. I just don't eat them. I would rather just not eat than eat a bagel.

I like everything about the south except the weird and delusional belief that biscuits are the best way to make a breakfast sandwich. Shit crumbles and falls apart at the first bite giving you a lap full of crumbs and 9 times out of 10 are so darned dry it takes a gallon of beverage to choke the shit down.

Wrong. Get fluffier, wetter, denser biscuits and stop overcooking them.

This seems to be a case of a peasant food that should've died in old world poland, my guess is that it's simply carried on for nostalgia sake or something, not because it's actually good.

How do u feel abt pretzels??
Jump in the discussion.

I’ve never eaten anything as dry, boring, and tasteless as a fricking pretzel. I’m not talking about those soft ones you dip in cheese, I’m talking about those crusty butt pieces of tree bark they give you on airplanes. At least with other dried bread-type items like croutons and Chex mix they season those things and make them bearable. frick pretzels.

Soft pretzels are boiled, hard pretzels arent even food imo

Whatchu talking about neighbor? Soft pretzels aren’t boiled. They are dipped or sprayed with a lye solution, or if they are inferior fakezels, some other mildly base solution, but it is not boiling or cooked in it.

Ideally you boil them for 30s each side.

Not a real German pretzel. It’s the pussified version of a lye bath.

Yes, a real German pretzel is boiled in Lye for 10-30s. You want the lye to be lightly simmering.
