(M21) I'm what some people called a NEET, I had a job but quit after six months when someone almost shot up our restaurant over cold darn fries. Its been maybe 2 years since the incident and I haven't been able to find decent work, trying and failing to find some kind of career without going to college. I have decided not to go to college because I don't want to be in debt and I hate the education system.

As the world keeps to spiral out of control and with Artificial Intelligence starting to make leaps and bounds, I don't even feel like it matters anymore because the singularity is coming and I will either die or have all my needs taken care of in a decade or so why bother? I feel like a defective creature who can just do the bare minimum to survive like some pathetic parasitic leech. I just want to be alone, buy a small apartment to live in, and WFH on a stand up desk for the rest of my life man and I can't even do that. No instead I am a whiney leech and a burden on my family who can barely focus enough to get anything meaningful done. I've considered unaliving myself but there is still a great deal of hesitation, so instead I just sit around waiting for something to happen to either put me out of my misery or stir me into action and I am tired of waiting.

I honestly think one solution to this is to value what are seen as the "lower-down" positions and lean into more equal pay/compensation across the whole organization. Let people who want to lead lead, let people who are shy or want to keep their heads down and work do so, but don't force people to climb a ladder to get paid. Let people do a good job in the role they want, and promote people who are good for the role.

I do think men have a bias toward aggression and risk-taking that naturally predisposes itself to our existing business culture.

The other flip side of this is, we should value nurturing and egalitarian instincts in our leadership teams. We should drop "great man theory" and acknowledge that group success hinges on the contributions of many, the strength of the group, its cohesion and overall health, not one person just catching lightning in a bottle, but teamwork and community. So, yeah, promote people who aren't just aggressive risk-takers. IMO: You need some people who are willing to flip the lever on a risk once in a while, but group cohesion and health pays dividends almost all the time.

I would say let ambitious people grow, but do pick the actual best people at what they already can do when picking people to lead or be responsible for others in an organization. Or if you're taking a chance on people who aren't ready but will grow into the role, don't forget women, and don't forget shy people who won't toot their horn but are beloved by coworkers for being a positive contributor to the team.

I appreciate you trying to bring a different perspective, but the problem here actually extends past masculinity and gender. It's about not wanting to bear the burden of having to act, which is something many women and increasingly many men are trying to offload onto the system. It's resentment caused by the blindness that's inherent to most people who lack confidence and the ability to act. They see the failures and imperfections in the actions of confident/overconfident people and incorrectly compare it to their own inactive perfection, and seethe.

is something you never ever want to tell your hypothetical daughters, unless you're actively raising them to be subordinate to others. If women never acquire confidence, never learn to take action, never learn to change themselves for the better, how will they ever change a deeply entrenched system? This is an age where we're seeing middle to upper class white women who are fairly well-established still suffer from high rates of anxiety and depression. I strongly believe this is caused by them never really establishing an internal locus of control, which makes them highly susceptible to outside stressors. They often feel helpless to do anything to change their situation and feel resentment towards those who they see as able to act on their own. Their fetishization of the loud sassy black kweens is part of this (they're the white women' gigachad) as they are seen as being able to act in order to get what they want regardless of their situation.

It's not just a white thing or a women thing though, men like the ones on Menslib use a progressive seeming rejection of masculinity in order to justify their desire to abandon the pressures and responsibilities associated with masculinity. Say what you want about the Arab-originated viewpoints on masculinity, but they at least traditionally believe that men are obligated to provide for their families and those around them. Two people in a relationship who are lacking confidence and initiative usually ends up as two people expecting each other to read the other's minds or if they've been to therapy two people who communicate "openly" while resenting each other the whole time.

Menslib's biggest problem isn't about the fact that they're weenies or cucks or heckin good people who respect women, it's the fact that they clamor for a kind of secular paternalism where some Godlike entity from above just makes all the tough decisions for them and also rewards them when they do well ("but don't force people to climb a ladder to get paid").

Personally, nearly all the women I've known who have had a strong sense of confidence and ability to act have had extremely good outcomes in all parts of their lives. This mentality is important for all genders, and not even just for increasing your chances of good outcomes, but because mentally it builds stronger and happier people. And the hypothetical middle ground where someone has the ideal balance of confidence and cooperation is cool to advocate for, but if there was any side you would want your children to err on it'd be the side of confidence.

Shows up in college admissions as well. You can see the gender bias from the bottom to the top of the applicant pool. Loads of wildly unqualified male applicants, and even at the lower end of the pool that we are admitting the share of women is pretty small. But at the top - loads of women. The guys that have no hope think they have a shot, and the women that do have a shot don't apply because they don't think they're qualified. It's one reason why women are increasingly overrepresented at universities - a LOT of guys overapply and get shut out because they never apply to schools they're actually likely to get into. As schools get more competitive (because we're not growing our universities fast enough) the admit population skews more and more female because the guys aren't adapting to reality.

Honestly, they're not wrong (which proves that even a broken clock is correct twice each day). Part of the reason I've been less successful in my career than I should have been is my inability to fake the kind of wild overconfidence that many incompetent narcissists have. (I try, but since I'm a bit neurodivergent I'm not very good at it.) That's why I decided to try kickstarting a revolution and helping destroy our current version of "Society" (hopefully to replace it with a "Society 2.0" that is more aligned with the goals of people like me). The way I see it, if our society is currently optimized for dumb overconfident narcissists being on top rather than humble randos like me, why should I support the continued existence of that society? Like, what's my incentive to perpetuate the status quo when the status quo actively discriminates against neurodivergent people like me?

A lot of smart technology autists (perhaps even Dramautists or Mottizens) should also be asking themselves that same question but for some reason they never do.
