God I love layoffs. It's when everyone drops the veneer or team spirit and starts backstabbing each other. I especially love it when it happens to Reddit.

A nice Microsoft poster tells everyone that Reddit is laying off 5% of its workforce. A innocent little SoundCloud employee makes a joke and boy are p-do Reddit admins mad.

Everyone on blind is a whiny c*nt so it’s important to keep that in mind for perspective. It was always fun to read the whining back when we were all raking in 100ks to millions at the company I used to work for. Those were the good old day.

Some of the shit is funny though. Right now the war between Applecels and Metacels is hilarious over VR trinkets. lol
Also, I love how they post their TC which we know is bloated and isn't anywhere near what they actually bring home. MF be injecting their PTO, healthcare, etc into this and then rounding up to the nearest thousand. lol I just love the H1Bs dunking on each other, and some of them are pretty funny.

Yeah it is funny, that’s why I still read it. But it’s hard to use as a gauge cuz nobody ever goes on there to post something positive. now that the gravy train ain’t what it used to be, people get really real on there sometimes

I like the realness too. Some of them are burnt out, which happens to every dev from 20s-30s. You work too much and now the job you loved is something that makes you want to keep yourself safe. That's what I get out of a lot of them. That boomer saying to do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life is not for corporate jobs. In fact, you do what you love and corporations will make you hate it soon enough.

People get really attached. It’s what drives them to become great but then they burn out when they don’t get the promotion, technical decisions don’t go their way, product guy is a dumb butthole etc. nerds also have a deep need to be seen as smart and good.
In the really high places, they all came from Harvard MIT etc, meaning they were on the treadmill since they were born. Everything went their way for 20 years and now it’s hard.
And many of them are too neurodivergent to be good at the politics part, which becomes more important as you go along. I knew I was bad at that game so I never tried to play.
You have to figure out how to detach from it all, just not so much that you get fired.
