I was cashiering during the pandemic at a discount grocery store. A customer asked me how I was and I mentioned I was a bit tired of being on my feet as I was working a long (10hr) shift. Dude has the audacity to to say, " get a real job and then b-word to me about it." Rude AF.

Maybe because these stupid machines malfunction at random and require an employee's card/code to unlock, and the problem always seems to be just "Employee scans card, press yes to continue".
I am convinced the random malfunctions are just the Wagie's equivalent of a quick time event to keep them around the self-checkout area in case someone actually needs their assistance, instead of letting them wander around thinking the self-checkout will do all of their job for them.
