Lol. That ecohealth thing (its own website calls it a non-profit, so I dont know why the article calls it for-profit) is your bog-standard environmental NGO. That thing alone wil have dozens upon dozens of programs, and there are thousands of them that get government grants. Its a gigantic "ecosystem". The government doesn't have the ability to do in-depth analysis of what they engage in in detail. The way it works is that they apply for government grants for specific projects, and thats what the government "funds". What other programs they engage in is only cursory looked at at best, making sure they dont support terrorism etc. is handled at a completely different level.
This is the way this works: The org approaches the government agency, saying "hey, I see you offer $250k in grants for projects aimed at pandemic prevention. We are in the conceptualisation stage of a project in that field. We aim to do "xyz" through "abc" methods, yadda yadda we would like to get $10k of that grant". The government then decides if it wants to finance the project, and thats it. The money is for a specific project, and the government doesn't care, or even know, what other projects the org does, because it doesnt matter, the government doesn't finance them.
Saying ford is a reputable company and so its fine to trust them is pretty funny given how big corps are more than willing to make shady deals. For government money, "trust" is replaced by strict reporting requirements to prove where the money was spent, and that it was actually for the project it was earmarked for.
