Huh? Didn't the Buddha start out his quest for enlightenment by fasting himself until he became so emaciated that his bones were showing? Then he realized that extreme asceticism didn't bring him the answers he was seeking. So he came up with the Middle Path that lies between asceticism and hedonism. And the focus turned more to meditation rather than fasting. Therefore, till this day, Buddhist monks do fast but they only do it intermittently and never to the point of starvation. Starving to death seems more of a Jain thing.
