If you missed the last few posts on this, Sora is the newest product from OpenAI that generates video from text prompts.
For a first public preview, it's pretty impressive. You can tell it's AI when you look for it, but your average infinite scroller won't suspect a thing.

It can take a long time.
Blender is probably the most positive example but it took 20 years to get there and for quite a few things proprietary SW like Maya are still ahead.
Graphics editors have been around for 30+ years, open source (e.g. Krita) still is behind proprietary (e.g. Photoshop).
For software synthesizers, audio plugins, sample libraries, the free/open ones are rarely on par with proprietary ones.
