How would companies shoehorn short text generated video clips into their products? I can't think of a single usecase in typical apps we use. It's mostly going to be for ads and background shit in youtube videos. Like how DallE is used as stock images. Eventhally it will make real content.

This type of model is hugely resource intensive because it basically makes individual frames by iterating endless noise images until it gets something that matches the prompt. Each frame can take hundreds of thousands of iterations.

Diffusion models are relatively cheap compared to transformers and such but Sora uses a combination Transformer/Diffusion model so it's very likely that it's a huge resource hog

They've gotta be abstracting it further to make minute long videos. This is a guess but they are probably generating space-time "frames" now of size 512 * 512 * 5 seconds for example, then upscaling. With the level of coherence I would be very surprised to learn it's frame by frame.

Blender is probably the most positive example but it took 20 years to get there and for quite a few things proprietary SW like Maya are still ahead.
Graphics editors have been around for 30+ years, open source (e.g. Krita) still is behind proprietary (e.g. Photoshop).
For software synthesizers, audio plugins, sample libraries, the free/open ones are rarely on par with proprietary ones.

It's just like AI art, it's only going to assist a talented person, not make you talented by pushing a button. It's like a blueprint you work off of, but you need real skills (lighting, colours, story, dialogue etc) to turn it into something real.
