Vegans cope about being insufferable :marseycopetyping:

https://old.reddit.com/r/vegan/comments/1bt6hy1/please_dont_be_preachy_stop_advocating_for_animals/

I'm not a pushy vegan. But if I combat the cognitive dissonances thrown at me even just a little bit, I'm accused of being a preachy vegan.

People have absolutely no idea how much I let go. I put my desire to have good relations with people over being an animal advocate. And still, I've had people tell me they feel turned off by my intensity on veganism.

It's getting to the point where I might just not eat in groups anymore. And might not even try becoming close friends with non-vegans outside the ones I already have built relationships with.

I know beating people in arguments doesn't win them over. They are set in their ways. But letting them get away with their flawed arguments is equally bad. It makes them falsely believe they actually have winning arguments.

The whole thing is lose/lose.

It's not like most of us preach either. People think we are like street preachers, shouting about hellfire and sin on a street corner, instead we are often calm and perfectly rational. It only comes across as preachy because the ethics and morals we speak of make them aware of their own (or lack of them).

Yep. They want us to laugh at the jokes. They want us to pat them on the back and say, it's ok. We support you. And when we don't, they feel judged and attacked.

It's not about our desire to judge or attack. It's about us speaking up for the voiceless. Now that I'm consciously realizing this, I'm going to start throwing a little outrage when people tell me to be quiet. I don't appreciate being told to tone down something I care about.

step aside g*mers :marseysociety2:, the actual most oppressed minority has entered the conversation :#marseysalad:

in my circle its the meaters who are preaching me

i highly doubt they started it :#marseyattentionseeker:

β€œYou can eat what you want but don't try to convince me. Actually don't even tell me about it. No wait, don't even be vegan around me. Watching you eat plants is making me insecure about my own life choices and since mine is more prominent and widely accepted, you're the one who has to make the changes to make ME more comfortable.”

I'm fortunate to have had people mostly supportive of my being vegan. But they also virtue signal that they are all about letting people make whatever choices they want. I often detect an implication that I'm not as tolerant as they are because I don't condone animal consumption. Again, they have no idea how much I let go. I can easily call them out on the implication they're making that I'm intolerant, as I've never been given a sound reason not to advocate for animal rights.

>i'm vegan

>ok, do whatever you want

>:#soyjaktantrum:

This is why I gave up being a Pick Me, "non-preachy" vegan and embraced the preachiness. You'll be accused of preaching either way, might as well be able to express yourself. (Obviously I pick my moments and am not pushing veganism 24/7)

>Obviously I pick my moments and am not pushing veganism 24/7

:#marseysurejan:

Less than a week ago, I lost a friendship with a non-vegan because of my veganism. Well, more specifically, I mentioned that I look down upon animal abusers and that consuming animal products is animal abuse. Obviously, that didn't go over well. He even said that he's going to eat more meat in spite of me. Makes me wish I never said that.

:#marseypikachu2:

He sounds like an butthole. Anyone who uses the "now I am going to do it even more" seems like a shitty person.

>He sounds like an butthole.

:#marseylaughpoundfist:

0 self awareness

Whether they intend to change or not, by going through the motions of carrying on dialogue you can systematically delete all of their excuses one by one so they can't reiterate them to the next person. Thank you for advocating for the animals, it may not always feel as if it had an impact, but it does so thank you keep up the good work.

eating meats is normal and doesn't require any "excuse". i just like to eat meats

:#marseygigachadtalking:

Yea that logic can kinda be applied to anything. Like slavery/r*pe/torture. So am I supposed to take you serious here?

You're literally lurking in a vegan thread and saying the equivalent of Mmm bacon here. I don't think it's as edgy as you believe it is in your head. It's more of a reflection of your own personal shortcomings.

MEAT IS MURDER CHUD :#marseygrilling2genocide:

I'm gonna play devil's advocate and akshuallee :marseyakshually: say that there is a kernel of truth to what they are saying:

Story time! :marseyreading:

My ex was vegan, but she was totally chill :marseycool2: Yes, the idea of consuming meat grossed her out, but when we ate out, and I got my (for example) Pho normal with meat, it was never even a discussion.

But when I would tell friends/family about her being vegan, they would immediately start trashing vegans, even though they didn't even know her yet :marseyglancing:

I imagine this is how the "normal" non-social contagion/AGP :marseytrain:s feel, like a group within their niche is just being so loud and obnoxious that it's giving everyone a bad name on a societal scale.

It's kinda messed up because vegans have a bulletproof moral argument (at least the central "don't kill these smart things" argument), it's just that a reverse-seared steak tastes too good :marseylickinglips:

"Why yes. I use a cute lil simple story made for illiterate poors living in the desert 2000 years ago in a discussion on morality. How could you tell?"

:marseychad:

Edit: Additional stupid arguement tactic

"Noo you can't have a universal moral base without proving everything about it first! you have to think about it really hard and use statistics and sciences and examine your biases and choose rationally the next course of action!" :soycry:

"I choose rationally to believe God exists and this book sumarizes his moral teachings." :chad:

"Nooooo not like that! No rational person can agree with that!" :soycry:

God blessed them. God said to them, "Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

"Smart" is a relative term. Cows and sheep are definitely not smart. Pigs may be, but they'll eat humans (if they get the chance) as much as humans eat them, so it's an even playing field. Chickens are heck-birds and dumb as rocks on top of it. When we get to fish and shrimp and so on, there's no question of intelligence.
