The head of the gay group at the time, a they/them(male), used their speech to talk about how it was actually societies fault for not accepting gays and took potshots at the Aus Liberal (conservative) party. I was so disgusted, because it was a Muslim guy who HATED gays (despite the media trying to say he was closeted - he wasnt). Shem didn't need to knock down Islam or anything, but it would have been nice to have a unifying message for the 'community' in the wake of the tragedy, something to bring us together, rather than completely appropriating it for a screed against their political rivals. I always wished I had made a formal complaint at the time - but to who, the student Guild was Labor-aligned.

I went to college later than most, and being part of the alphabet gang, I decided to see what the LGBT club had to offer.
I politely asked rude questions to their chief ace, "isn't that simply a libido problem?
," asked general questions about NB v. androgynous v. trans, got an answer, and doubled down that it still didn't make sense, and I thought aloud about their leader's animosity toward the medical profession which also diagnosed people with gender dysphoria and gave them medication.
They were not impressed with my behavior.
The best thing that got my eyes rolling was the President and VP who were a "bisexual" (hetero) couple. White too.

Basically what happened to me in my story in the other comment.
I was a postgrad and so was able to make friends in my cohort etc.
The person who succeeded the they/them blob was actually a fairly normal and nice white girl. No idea if she was 'bi', but at least for one year they were just holding normal events surrounding funding, queer art, and providing a nice welcoming environment. Collaborated with a bunch of clubs and started building it's reputation positively.
It of course returned to it's regular toxicity the next year and cratered all that good will due to militant ID politics and an willingness to be congenial to outsiders.
