Other issue with Chaos is the motivation. Chaos has no reason ever to work together and instead should be contained in the the warp mostly. Chaos space marines should just be elite veteran squad of soldiers from 30k. Like they have several existential threats already and Chaos lore wise is a poor existential threat. Abaddon could have his crusades it should be more akin to peoples crusades than a massive chaos league. The remaining traitor legions should be fighting for their existence from Imperium and other Chaos entities

Easiest book or tv show would be rebelion in imperial world. Where you show rulers of that planet politically and economically corrupt and Decadent. But as good imperial subjects.
Rebels are normal people who rise up. But becouse they face imperial forces. They are out matched. Slowly chaos agitators make their way in into rebelion. With aid from chaos. Rebelion manages to turn the tide. But in turn they become more and more corrupt.
Final of story is siege of capital. Just before great victory. Space marines arive and mow down rebelion.
Lost and dammed would also easiest job to write or make toys for. From peoples armies, pirate forces to weird mono god forces. Like sentinent zombies.
