You're forgetting the intermediary step. 2025 Wapo will be like

Is it a good thing that grandparents and little kids got bowled into? No. Of course not.

But the fact that a Black man felt secure enough in his convictions to lash out in response to the desperation he feels? That's not the same question.

That shows hope. Hope that Black people will no longer feel shame for their Blackness. Hope that all will feel empowered to fight for justice. The tragedy we saw is the inevitable result of white supremacy. It's terrible that anyone feels the need to do what he did, to throw their lives away the way he has, knowing that he will not be judged fairly, if he isn't executed in the streets. But the healing process is always ugly. Only by all of us joining together and fighting harder against the harm Black bodies feel every day will America prevent more tragedies like this.
