Very first job, in a room full of senior dudes, I was told to βmake the elves sexierβ and when I did that as elegantly as possible w max respect to established lore & worldbuilding I was told βno, like a stripperβ and βI can send you reference lolβ and Iβve never forgotten https://t.co/IeoLGGMkN0

It's always fun watching artists cope with the fact that 99% of the time they just do what the money tells them to do.

Yeah. It's strange because traditionally, that's all artists ever were.
The patronage system (original Patreon) is the only thing that allowed art and artists to flourish. I.e. Rich people sponsoring artists to produce the best stuff in a 'Keeping Up with the Joneses' arms race against their Rich peepee neighbours as a sign of status.
Da Vinci - had a patron
Michelangelo - had a patron
Mondern artists - have patrons (but more in the money laundering vs sponsorship sense)
In the Renaissance art was a trade, and I don't know where this idea of it being the antithesis of Capitalism came from...when it only exists because of a rich person subsidising your lifestyle on a whim because they think your art is good / will improve their social standing.

Even in communism artists weren't free to do what they wanted, it was all generic socialist realism shit and agitprop posters, doing modern art got you a free trip to the gulag
