My company may just be going for cheap labor. For me they tend to look at only the surface requirements for output and completely ignore everything else. They will take a month to complete a story that mostly gives the output we want but with a completely different implementation than what was outlined. "Fix" bugs introducing more bugs. (Legit had someone break saving functionally to fix a bug where saving would spawn an erroneous error popup) Make a PR with all the related tests commented out. It is an absolute disaster and I feel our code based getting worse with each PR from them that is merged.

If you work in AI you really should be angling for a business analyst focused skill set. The key there is to prepare a pivot into a business intelligence product owner role. Don't let yourself be an AI individual contributor unless you are a PhD level working at an org with fat piles of cash to train their own models. 5 years from now there's going to be a small pointy tip-of-the-spear set of data scientists doing true AI building, and the real money for most people is going to be in the "AI power user" persona, i.e., people who understand AI use cases but have the applicable knowledge of how to apply prebuilt or otherwise out of the box toolsets that enhance the capabilities of skilled white collar workers.
