They didn't "fall" for it. They've always held those principles of egalitarianism and oppression olympics, so this "race to the bottom" will always get the best of them. Their ideology has no brakes because that would exclude others, silence is violence, and so on.

Imo it was actually the FBI but according to paranoid leftoids they were both responsible for NYPD allegedly moving tonnes of homeless to the protest area to frick it up (that's a classic COINTELPRO-style move but on the other hand they could have just gone there on their own) and for promoting the "progressive stack" which meant that only the most intersectional morons could talk and nothing could get done (that is actually textbook COINTELPRO, see e.g. what the CIA did with the American Indian Movement, but leftoids are r-slurred so I think they did that to themselves too).
COINTELPRO was always an FBI thing but the CIA doesn't give a frick about any restrictions on operating domestically and has stuff like Operation CHAOS which was just COINTELPRO: The Sequel.

I remember some of the dumbest feminist stories were coming out of the Guardian in 2015, stuff indistinguishable from parody. Right after they got "in trouble" for Snowden. They went from publishing Glenn Greenwald and Charlie Brooker (two of the smartest, sharpest guys in the world) straight into this dumbest girl in your class style 'feminism.' Felt like the biggest shift in mainstream press in my lifetime, I kept saying "some editor at the Guardian knows this is a joke, right? They're pranking us?" And then I think the story's would do numbers, viral like "can't believe how stupid this is." That was when journos acquired subhuman rep, they were just a little boring, in 2012.

I do not really disagree but usually the way COINTELPRO works is that the agency has its shills work their way into positions of power and then ban anyone who disagrees with whatever dumb shit they're proposing. There are usually also wreckers whose sole purpose is to cause infighting by taking dumb as frick positions on everything. So unless your organization is both disciplined and ideologically uniform you are generally fricked once youve been targeted.
