The funny thing is the insane costs are all made up by hospital accounting departments to 1) grift insurers and 2) scare people in to getting insurance. When this dude gets his "bill" for 27k he goes "holy shit I dodged a bullet, thanks insurers!". Meanwhile, behind the scenes, the insurer looks at that bill and goes "lol, lmao even. how about $250?" and the hospital goes "yeah ok sounds good". Then John pays his 1k deductible anyway lol.

2. scare people in to getting insurance.

Not even that lol. It's thanks to extremely r-slurred "cost limiting" regulations that cap insurance profit at % of hospital costs. Now instead of being encouraged to seek affordable hospitals, insurers are encouraged to pay as much as possible if they want to make profits for themselves.

Similar thing happens with education costs and student loans.

So the collective bargaining power of insurance companies let's them negotiate prices?

What if it was a "company" of 300 million people in the form of some kind of government doing that?

It would never work. A better idea would be to just have one guy do that stuff forever because then he'd get really good at doing it.

Every open enrollment period at work makes me want to fedpost.

Every year insurance costs more, covers less, has more stipulations and becomes harder to follow. And even when you do things correctly they fight tooth and nail to not pay out.

It is convoluted and inefficient and worst of all it's so fricking boring :marseyyawn:

FSAs, HSAs, HDHPs, PPOs, I just want to grill :marseygrilling2:

I hate insurance companies so much it's unreal.

Yep. Idk why Americans have to foot the bill for the research when anyone with socialized medicine gets it for free.

I pay nothing for infusions and injections with the insurance of a school teacher.

You're not paying for the research, that's just pharma bs. You're paying more simply because your government is owned by big business.

Eating up that pharma bs like a good Burger would.

Tbf unless you're an absolute poorcel you have to get private health insurance in frogland; the free stuff only gets you so far.

It is significantly cheaper tho. I used to pay 35/month, now I pay like 15 with my new job. It's ridiculous.

My father's healthcare is done as a "you pay out of pocket" and then the insurance group reimburses you.

He's getting an MRI done for $500 today. That's an 85% discount off of insurance prices. Plus he doesn't have to let insurance dictate what they will and won't cover.

Pretty much how private insurance works here in Krautland.

But since Burgers are all privately insured it's a tad different there, which is why I just always said I'm self pay.

Correction.

The needle costs about $0.15

The medicine costs about $1.50

The licensing, trademark, copyright, and monopoly owned by the drug company is β€œworth” $26,998.35

Those are probably costs, not even worth.

The worth is quite literally priceless since I it stops me from pooping out my colon's lining.

Yes. Exactly why I put worth in quotations.

:#marseycheckmate:

In Spain those are worth 3.000€ if you buy them (between 2700 and 3000)... But if they are prescribed in public health care they are given for free in the hospital pharmacy.

It blows my mind that in other countries you pay so much for meds
