I had a jeet computer science professor and he was the only one to suspect craftiness and cheating at all times from the students, to the point where he would lay traps

Sadly it was the Professors coordinating the class who would often give the student a 'stern warning' about plagiarism etc. with scores of like 60% similarity (not even misquoting, changing like 1 word with a thesaurus and no citation).
This was in 3rd year undergrad so you KNOW the students have been doing this consistently with no consequences. But there is a pressure not to fail students, especially international students who contribute a big chunk of change to attend Universities.
I was so disgusted by the lack of integrity from some of the Professors I tutored / taught for. And this was pre chat-GPT.

fr one of my friends who isn't a coder at all kinda fell into an adjacent testing job, he was talking about this remote indian dude his team had who in the few months he was there never actually correctly implemented a single feature so they had to fire him
my reaction is just like... well your dumbass company still paid him for months to do nothing, he shouldn't have been hired, or at LEAST should have been fired after the first week of incompetence.

I've seen it a few times. The worst one was a doctor with a decent idea but should have cost tens of thousands to build out. He found a jeet team claiming to be HIPAA compliant (lol) for $5000. It was so so soooo bad. HIPAA compliant but everything was stored in plain text. lol I would ask them technical details about the backend, and I'm not sure if they purposely lied or just didn't know. They then held the code hostage for another $10,000 and he paid them just to get shit code that had to be completely redone by someone in the US.

Onboarding should take 2-3 months, while ramping a developer up to their full productivity will take longer. Features are also usually built in 1-2 week cycles almost universally. Ramesh would have to be monumentally incompetent to get fired in that timeframe

You should be able to determine that somebody isn't good at the job long, long, LONG before the "full productivity" period.
If they can't do basic shit after 2 weeks then they're not going to get better. Cut them loose.
Yes and that's the problem. Companies should be far faster at firing incompetent employees. The whole "oh maybe he gets better" thing never actually works. At no point has anybody been a trash-tier developer after 2 weeks and suddenly within a few months they're an excellent, productive team member.
