President Volodymyr Zelensky said on June 25 he was confident that Ukraine would become a full member of the European Union.

"As of today, we have full confidence — Ukraine will definitely become a full member of the European Union," Zelensky said in his evening address.

"Now, the focus is on the technical work between Ukraine and the EU, adapting our system to the EU, and Europe's political will to make the European project truly complete."

They need to sort their shit out first. War aside, they are super corrupt from top to bottom. Everyone creams off the top , scams and bribes endemic. Years of being in the soviet Union left a dirty mark that needs washing out. And Russia still has its fingers there even though they are fighting.

Do you know how Corruption Perception Index is calculated for your “rich western” country to in the end get one number to characterize all of complex cultural, and economic factors?

And even after that the “Ukraine corruption” or “Eastern Europe” is just something that you hear from everywhere without much analysis.

I am not talking that corruption is not present or it's not a problem. I am saying that it's all much more nuanced then what you hear from your surroundings and take it on as your own genuine thought.

At the end of the day you need to understand that it's just you as a perhaps EU citizen having a thought, which I respect. But you also need to understand that your businesses need cheap labor, your politicians need more population, and your children will need a peaceful future.

And all of that goes beyond just mere “corrupt country”. We are no longer living in a piece time, even in EU, and geopolitics is playing ever increasing role. In that case you're keeping your allies close, regardless of their internal problems, as long as they are serving the role you need them to serve.

Just imagine a world where Ukraine is left alone, and Russia takes over. And in an instant you get ten million fresh soldiers at your border. Are you okay with that? Are you ready to invest trillions in your army? Or would you invest billions in Ukraine? That's the political choice now.

I am not trying to change your mind, I'm just saying that there ate much more at stake than just cliched “Ukraine corruption”. And actors well beyong EU citizen get to decide the future.

Sorry for chaotic messaging, downvote if you don't have anything to say. Also I'm not talking about joining tomorrow. I'm talking about giving a chance and a hope to Ukraine. I think hope is important.

Hope is important! :marseyxd:

If Ukraine really enters the European Union then i will believe in Santa Claus.

It most likely will though?

It may take 15 years or more, and/or multiple speeds/tiers EU, but it's more likely than not, that it eventually will.

Might take 100 years but eventually! It will!
