Maybe America won't "be great" until we segment and balkanize.
Maybe the grand experiment is just over and we should embrace that different regional populations have different needs that are better served by more local governments - let the places whose governments fail to meet the needs of their local constituents stop being propped up by party funds from one side or the other. I don't care whose ideology you think will win. Let's put the frickin chips down and see who sinks or swims. Make spheres of influence matter again.
Maybe, just maybe, "America" as it was envisioned by a bunch of hemp farming landchad cute twinks a million years ago will never "be great".
And maybe that is OK. What if that is just...OK?
