They even got banned once and then unbanned I think, and also iirc one of its main mods sperged out at something, kicked out the entire mod team, and made the sub private before deleting his account, but then reddit re-opened the sub and re-instated all mods.

Yeah that's how I remember it. The head mod/founder was inactive for like two years and decided to delete the sub randomly one day but the admins reversed the decision and removed that guy from the mod team.
I'm not sure if they have a special relationship with the admins but the KiA mods tend to kowtow to any of the admin's demands and delete anything that's remotely spicy ever since their sub almost got deleted in 2018 and they have banned discussions on trains for like five years now I think (which is probably why the sub is still alive tbh).
TBH I don't even know why Redditors even complain about KiA anymore as that place is incredibly tame nowadays.
