Driskill, an author and poet who's been employed at the university since 2012, developed OSU's Queer Studies program and had previously been honored for their transgender scholarship.

According to the group's fall news release, Driskill had acknowledged they are not citizens of any federally recognized tribe but insisted they had ancestry to those tribes.

Driskill identifies as trans, nonbinary and Two-Spirit.

every single person quoted or mentioned in the article is trans

Did any of those tribes actually have "Two Spirit"? Wasn't that just 1 specific tribe?

Actually, not a single tribe had it. Some gays in Canada made up the term in the 90's. It had no significance in Native cultures.

They have a super convenient explanation for that.

That's an umbrella term used by and for indigenous people who are part of the LGBTQI+ community, and which serves as a placeholder for other terms being recovered due to indigenous language loss.

Uh-huh. I'm willing to bet if you hear someone describing themselves as Two Spirit with another laundry list of terms like this person, it's a very good bet they're Pretendian. I doubt real natives on the reservation are messing around with that kind of nonsense, it'll be "you're gay or you're straight" as far as they're concerned.

Only people I saw talking about being Two Spirit were white teenage girls back in the 2010s (before they got slapped down for appropriating native culture). Now they've switched to "queer" (rather than gay or lesbian) for the same kind of reasons: it's a nice vague term that means what they want it to mean, and they don't have to actually be anything other than straight cis teenage white girls.
