The way this has played out many times in many countries is that somebody appears who says they're going to solve the problem. Don't ask me how, but I promise the problem will get solved. And people like her who are desperate will say "yes, do it, whatever it is, do it". Magically the problem is solved. She goes back to living her happy life, whatever women do these days, probably crochet or something.

About 15 years later somebody finds out the truth. And then she cries "OMG that's a human rights violation!!! Why did they do this in secret behind our backs???"

It's not going to happen in Portland because America is extremely averse to that kind of violence. Cops almost never kill people. But I see all the same motives:

• I support the homeless because [abstract political idea they learned in college, they've never had to even worry about being homeless]

• [they keep saying this 20 years, blocking anything that would regulate/actually help the homeless]

• it's just these ones in my front yard who are the problem, they're the bad homeless, not the ones from my textbook

• my 4-year old daughter just picked up a used fent needle in my front yard and may have gotten AIDS from it

• this is a crisis and somebody needs to do something now, absolutely anything, I don't care

• no, I won't stop voting for the cabal of the homeless industrial-complex, the teachers unions, and the real estate developers - only lower class people do that!

• there's a lot of C-130 training missions over the ocean from McChord AFB
