Critics who don't play nicely with the studios don't get early access or invites to screenings, so they have nothing to review. Nothing to review = no job. If you work for media or a website that relies on the big studios paying the big bucks for advertising, saying "Big Studio latest offering awful trash" is going to get you in trouble, hence the difference between critic's scores and audience scores on sites like Rotten Tomatoes.
