They're ok! Good for low-to-medium traffic, as long as people actually pay attention and the approaches have good visibility.
In my area, they're overused. The transport authority stuck them on heavily-used intersections about 20 years ago to save money. Now, they are operating far beyond capacity and are being replaced by traffic lights.

I agree, and it's reflected in physical spaces. Unless you're around a college, the online type of alphabet creatures don't exist in gay places and there's really not that many more gays. It's definitely not 15-20% despite what the zoomers may answer on a survey.
