I really want to avoid adderall if I can help it.
Some context: I actually managed to get an adderall prescription but I'm scared to take it I don't like taking medications, I don't even take stuff like Tylenol unless absolutely necessary. I need something though I feel like I can't keep up at work

Not sure if you have access to it but what you're looking for is Khat. It's a plant that can be chewed or brewed in a tea. It's sometimes used as a party drug here in South Africa because it is a stimulant with euphoric properties.

Also, there's nothing to be afraid of with adderall, but I also don't recommend it. YMMV, but from my experience, it's only effective in keeping you up, and while it does help with factors like concentration and focus, it's a relatively mild effect that's not worth the insomnia that comes with it. If you genuinely, honestly have ADHD or some attention-deficit disorder that interferes with your daily functioning, ask your doctor for Modafinil. It is genuinely like the movie Limitless. You will feel like you have your entire mental capacity at your disposal, and you can singularly focus on a task for hours at peak concentration. It is hands-down the most powerful and effective nootropic I have ever had.

Best of luck!

I've never heard of either of these things, I'll look into them. Are there any side effects to modafinil? How long have you been taking it?

Modafinil has a fairly large biological half life so if you don't take it early enough you will not be able to get to sleep without another drug making you sleepy.
It also makes your piss stink of sulpher and if you take it several days in a row it'll start to make your sweat smell too.
Its magical though, its the only nootropic that actually works although I suspect that's because it makes your brain operate as if you have the perfect amount of sleep.

It made me grind my teeth when I took too much.
I took it for about two months. I didn't renew my prescription because I'm certain I was misdiagnosed with ADHD. In reality, I was going through a bipolar depressive episode. It helped me to still be functional during that time, but if I'm not in a depressive stupor, I actually have no problems concentrating and being productive. I mean, I spend hours writing pages of longposts here and it's really not a problem focusing on the task.
