I solved a few of the hard ones for you that weren't total bullshit questions. But like all crossword puzzles, it's total bullshit. It's like if I made a test for you and it was questions like "why didn't I like Chumbawumba when the radio kept hyping them before you were born?" and then acted like you were stupid if you didn't know.

Reminds me of this old joke which probably goes back a million years. I got it from the classic early 1990s RPG Betrayal at Krondor. (Quite different from but probably my #2 RPG after Darklands tbqh.)

The admiral of the Japanese fleet is stuck on a sinking ship with three cadets. There's a lifeboat but there's only room for three people. He says whoever answers his questions correctly will get a place on it.

He asks the first cadet: "What was the battleship that hit a Russian mine off Port Arthur and sank?" He thinks for a second but this is pretty easy. Hatsuse! "Very good, get in the lifeboat."

He asks the second cadet: "How many of our sailors died?" He has to think really long and hard about this but then remembers, 496. "Okay, you're in the lifeboat too."

He asks the third cadet: "What were their names?"

Krondor was great. Too bad the sequel sucked.

They got hopped up on the 3D bandwagon right? IIRC I played that for like 15 minutes and quit.

Or there was Betrayal at Antares or whatever it was called. Yeah, sorry hun, but we weren't playing this game for the combat system. It was riding on the story.

I remember Colossal Cave Adventure had a setting which limited the text of room descriptions, to save paper. Have you tried turning that on?

He asks the third cadet: "What were their names?"

Woody Guthrie wrote a song with this premise, but he eventually decided that naming them all in the song was r-slurred.

A bunch of clues near the top middle are backwards for down and accross. I think it starts around 159 D/A.
