What's the angle here? I mean the law is pretty clear and SCOTUS just affirmed that it's constitutional. Is it just Trump issuing an EO telling service providers to break the law?

:marseyakshually: enforcement :marseycop3: of laws is the purview of the executive branch. Maybe :marseymight: you've heard :marseyjacksparrow: of a little :marseyunicorn: thing called DACA? :smugsnoo:

If this unban goes through imo Congress should probably just unironically disband entirely. Not sure what their role would even be in government anymore. We could save a bunch of money by just firing all of them.

In all seriousness the total cowardice and abdication of responsibility by Congress :marseyaoc: is what's wrong :marseyobamanope: with America.

I never :marseyitsover: thought :marseymindblown: I'd say this, but Mitt Romney was right :marseyyes: when he said all the other senators are spineless kitties who just want to work out at the Senate gym, get sucked off as "Senator ___" and avoid :marseynope: taking "hard votes"

white extinction is long overdue and it should :marseynorm: start with the US congress.

Yeah it really is. It's been a long, long, long process though, going back several decades.

I hoped the Chevron decision would help reverse some of it but they're literally allergic to work.

But then they'd all go back to being C-levels and Senior VPs in the private sector who spend every day ruining the lives of their companies' workers with brainless shoot-from-hip initiatives that they thought of while skimming micro-news article summaries over breakfast. I'd much rather keep them contained to their posturing and infighting in Congress, where they can do the least harm.

But they're not fit for C-level jobs. :marseyconfused:.

Precisely the reason those jobs would be inexplicably given to them. Clearly you've never worked for a large distributed corporation.

It must be stopped.

It's the executive branch's job to decide how to implement laws, not to decide whether to implement laws.

Or it's supposed to be at least.

I simply consider this to be absurd executive overreach.

Isn't it super easy to abuse this law though? Most things can be considered threat to national security according to the government..

What's so special about tiktok anyway? It just collects your video viewing preferences and has an algo to serve you more videos, or toks whatever

Owned by china? Half the world is hostile politically, why specifically tiktok?

From what i understand they didn't break any law.. Anyway lemme read journo slop

>U.S. officials have repeatedly warned that TikTok threatens national security because the Chinese government could use it as a vehicle to spy on Americans or covertly influence the U.S. public by amplifying or suppressing certain content.

So a social media site..? All of them censor or amplify certain things

>because Chinese national security laws require organizations to cooperate with intelligence gathering. FBI Director Christopher Wray told House Intelligence Committee members last year that the Chinese government could compromise Americans' devices through the software.

So why not make a law making it so any company that tries breaching your phone with software gets banned or fined?

>"Why is it a security threat?" Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri said Friday. "If you have TikTok on your phone currently, it can track your whereabouts, it can read your text messages, it can track your keystrokes. It has access to your phone records."

This sounds more like a general phone problem? They are literally spy devices the government was eager to give us for cheap. They could make laws to force phone OS companies to be required to be open sourced and allow easy way of protecting user privacy?...

And if the problem is specifically what data users voluntarily give to tiktok, then that means you have an r-slured population who doesn't even consider china a threat or has zero braincells...

Darn, you're really mad over this, but thanks for the effort you put into typing that all out! Sadly I won't read it at all.

When trump suspends all laws and ends democracy the tiktok law also counts.

Yeah he's saying he won't enforce it on account of the kids thinking he's mean.

Trump is like Elon in this aspect, he literally just sought a public position to be liked by the masses. That's why he even tried to pander to Puerto Rico after all they said.

either Drumpf is telling TikTok how they can fall into compliance with the ruling or he is figuring out an executive order that would allow him to exempt tiktok from the ban. Ai bet uts rhe former bc the executive order could be overturned for the same reason the ban was ruled constitutional. That said the, when it comes to foreign policy issues, the president has a lot more authority that congress/courts cant as easily override vompared to domestic issues that affect US citizens on US soil. Arguably this cpuld fall into either category.

Biden wasn't going to enforce it either. At the end of the day the executive is strongest by design and aside from cucking the President by preventing impoundment it's up the the executive to actually execute based on what the other two say.

He wasn't going to enforce it because it started today, his AG isn't gonna write up fines on his last day
