Or just went to a school with several levels (remedial, college prep (lol), honors, AP). Outside of one matricide, being in AP-only track meant that I didn't interact with most of the criminal element. You'd just hear the occasional drug arrest or be walking through the hall and see a big pile of weaves (we called them tumbleweaves) and some blood and realize there had been a fight. I'm never going to send my kids there though; post-2020 in the name of equality the school district shut down tracking for all Freshmen and Sophmores because it wasn't equitable.

They did this in like every major coastal city. I taught in Philly at schools that were completely ruined because they let the riff raff in (I only lasted 2 years in that district).

The teaching blackpill is that a significant portion of students are a massive hindrance to the handful that actually want to learn and everyone would be better off if they were sent to the mines.
