I don't understand what happened with Trevor Noah, he was decent as a stand up comic and seemed to be quite a bit smarter than Stewart. He should have been a good choice. I think the writers/correspondents, where there was obvious AA hires, are what drove it into the ground.

TDS happened. Trevor was the host during the Trump admin, and liberals across the country came down with a hard case of TDS.
Thats not just hating on the orange man, it's a whole package of beliefs that became mainstream at the time including the whole "you can't punch down" in jokes ideology.
So the only thing lib comedians were allowed to do was make fun of trump and his supporters and then they had to ignore all the other funny ridiculous shit that was happening because of this r-slurred ideology of theirs.
Libs used to be funny especially in the Bush W era.

Yeah the culture shift from libs to where "edgy" became bad and all jokes are actually what you believe gutted the show and most comedy in general. That shift was already happening pre-Trump, but TDS exacerbated it.

It's weird too because Trevor Noah had tons of racial jokes and edgy shit. I was actually interested to hear he had been picked even though he was a relative unknown to the US at the time. Maybe it was just peer pressure? I honestly don't know how he became so poisoned.
