3 car garage -- it's a lot easier and more convenient to have a 2+1 door arrangement than a single wide 3-bay door. You can't buy a three-bay door, at least not off the shelf for a residential home. The other option people do is three single bay doors, but the 2+1 arrangement is better. Right, they don't make them because it'd be too impractical.
When a torsion spring breaks, it's darn near impossible for the average person to lift a modern 1-bay door. 3 would practically need a forklift or a team

Weight of the door, mostly. It's only supported at the ends and the opener is in the middle -- a super-wide door will sag too much in the middle.
