if the center-right and far-right parties teamed up together to pass legislation on adjusting the tax rates on rare allotropes of steel by a tenth of a percent they'd still call them nazis

nazis were literally bad though, like unironically. i understand a country that just recently got over "granny having committed genocide in your backyard " is weary of such new endeavours

Lol yeah you don't see Turks or Japs doing this shit. I think it's a symptom of Christianity.

The Korean left does this, accusing their opponents' grandfathers of being collaborators and stuff. Unlike their own grandfathers who were "independence fighters". There's a couple big huge obese elephants in the room:

Absolutely nothing that the "independence fighters" ever did contributed in any way to Korean independence. They got their independence entirely because the USA defeated Japan and was nice enough to give it to them.

I'm not a fan of collaborators in occupied countries in WW2 but this was a totally different situation. Japan took over in 1910. There was nobody to come help them. They asked the Americans. We declined. So what were people supposed to do? Spend the rest of eternity not having any cops? Even after WW2 breaks out, Korea is never anywhere near the front lines. There was never any consideration made by the US to land there. In the last days of the war Korea could have been liberated by the Americans after the atomic bomb or the Soviets after they rolled over Manchuria. They were lucky enough to get both.

In all the Korean media I've ever seen, you want to know the ratio of every time the US liberating Korea is mentioned versus the "independence fighters"? Sorry, you can't divide by 0. :marseyshrug:

Erm actually Korea was part of the frontlines during the final week of the war due to the Soviet blitzkrieg of Manchuria :marseynerd2:

The US ran a lot of cover for the Japs. Everything related to Unit 731 was classified until I think the '80s and the official line was that it and most other atrocities they committed in Asia were communist propaganda. It was actually an issue because a lot of the 731 guys went back into civilian medicine and kept carrying out their shenanigans there.

Turks are just Muslims and ergo fundamentally evil.

But the moral conundrum of Unit 731 is that it conducted crucial scientific research, like what happens to a baby if you freeze it solid and hit it with a hammer.

No it's a symptom of the fact that they lost.

The US put significant effort into rubbing the Krauts noses in the fact the Nazis were kinda fricked up

Seriouspost tho: There was a pretty shocking change to everyone's attitudes toward WW2 when they died. Suddenly it became just another setting for first person shooters.

I at least have living memory of what the people who had living memory told me.
