A lot of these guys seem like they have quite serious alcohol addictions.

This is the classic Daily Mail alcohol "gotcha" - completely ignoring that if you're an alcoholic then you'll die 20 years earlier and in severe pain after decades of poor health.

So many people don't realize that when you're a frequent binge drinker then go dry for a period, your body craves sugar because it's so used to getting it constantly as a byproduct of trying to process the alcohol you've been consuming. And if course because they've made no attempt to actually develop self control, they're just on a dry drunk and they end up binge-eating as a replacement for binge drinking.

Apologies for not going into clearer, explicit detail about the elevated blood glucose levels you experience when your body is trying and failing to break down alcohol (which it cannot process), that your body then becomes accustomed to and craves sugary foods in its absence when you stop drinking.

It's a well documented phenomenon in early sobriety for long-term alcoholics
