Woman in stem wonders why CS guys are mean to her after she doesn't know how to turn off a computer.

I remember going to WiE hours with my homework and they couldn't help me with a vectors problem. Maybe they are better in CS?

https://old.reddit.com/r/csMajors/comments/1imcka6/comment/mc27uk4/?context=8

Apparently the correct answer to someone not knowing how to turn off a computer should be "so true queen 💅" and not "lol".

Trans woman becomes worse at CS once she starts taking more estrogen. If she stayed as a masculine trans dude she'd probably be a monster.

Imagine being in a group project with someone who doesn't know how a monitor works jfl.

And she's like "I've only failed 2 classes so far" as some kind of flex.

And then she's complaining that you don't take her seriously in physics (integrals are very important),

still gonna coast to an easy $150k job right out of college because of the slit between her legs

I'm tired on women bitching about how "hard" it is to be a woman in tech. Reality is the opposite, women get preferential hiring and companies aren't even coy about it (well some are since Trump's anti-DEI stuff, but under a year ago they weren't).

Many large tech firms literally have different interview processes for women to make it easier for them.

Along with woman only networking events which are way more likely to get you hired then the main school ones where recruiters will spit on you if you look for an actual job and not an undergrad internship

Yep.

Reminds me of when I was in university and my well-meaning friend suggested I go to this "latinx engineers" career fair. I pushed back since I wasn't latinx but he's like "no it's PUT ON by the latinx engineers group but anybody is welcome to apply". Got in a suit, brought some resumes with me, and talk to a few of the recruiters there (they were VERY awkward) before one of them just straight up said "none of these positions are for you".

If they're even slightly decent looking they have a much easier time getting a job out of college. A newbie is gonna be pretty useless either way so boomer hiring managers would prefer a chick that's nice to look at rather than some CS nerd

Lmao, I missed that part at first!

So far i have failed only two classes Calc 2 and my second semester of java, which was due to medical reasons but all of the men in my classes at the time had advance making me feel as if i don't have what it take to be studying computer science.

Have you considered the possibility that the feeling is in fact correct?

I had imposter syndrome at my old gig and it was 100% accurate. I had no idea what I was doing, just winging a sales gig that I had zero background and training in. Making insane money

If it wasn't for the EPA I'd still be cashing checks

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

Yeah the only time I felt that way is when I was promoted to a management position with no training or background in people managing

I really didn't know what I was doing for like the first year and definitely was not as effective as I should have been

Yeah, I was selling heavy equipment as drunk ex-frat guy. Knew nothing about engines or whatever but it was well respected brand that sold itself and I am generally on honest sales men which goes along way. At the time it was my first real sales gig

I got myself on some big accounts that I only landed cause our management sucked so bad all the senior guys left.

I was pulling 150-200k+ working 30ish hours a week. Set to make way more until the epa decided our manufacturer was doing some fibbing on emission tests.

There were days I was at customers sites and couldn't believe they were listening to me as an expert when I was just bull pooping my way thru it

All they were doing was the engine test in a different country with higher standards and using the same test for the American standards. Paused deliveries for over a year

What kind of kindergarten CS program is she even in with classes like "the second semester of Java"? I did have to learn Java in my CS program -- but it was self-taught to complete assignments for real classes on topics like algorithms, complexity theory, and concurrency. The only languages actually taught in any of my classes were Scheme and Haskell, and the purpose was to cover their theoretical influences (e.g., monads vs. side-effects).

>take a class where everything has to be written in lisp

>realize the sublime beauty of functional programming

I actually have had a few jobs writing lisp and scheme. Going back to imperative languages is really hard at this point.

That's weird, CS101 and 102 were Java and then you took 1 other extra curricular language. I took C#. I remember employers use to chunk GA Tech resumes because they didn't teach a language and good a portion of their students would have to be taught their first programming language when they were hired.

My first year was java (first semester) to cover basic cs concepts, then C. After that we just had real classes.
