Am I out of touch or does the combat from this game look like dogshit for the current year? Look at some gameplay, this looks at least like a game from 10 years ago but with slightly better graphics.
Now compare that to a game that came out in 2013

I don't think there's been much evolution in gaming since 2013.
But yeah this looks slow and dated.

Its the genre difference I think. To me, combat looks fine, almost fun, but only because it has the classic everquest feel to it, so it might just be nostalgia

That's why I think I might just be missing something or don't have the nostalgia for games like this. I haven't really seen anyway talk about how the combat is bad. I've never played Everquest or Pillars of Eternity. I play turn based RPGs and ARPGs. and I like fantasy as a setting, but this game just looks bad to me. I just don't understand paying $70 for the game equivalent of a 14 years late copy of Skyrim.

Yeah the game is definitely ugly art wise, and most certainly a questionable $70 purchase. I'd pay $30 - $40 for it though

Looks extremely by-the-numbers. It doesn't try to have interesting movement, or powers, or combo mechanic, nothing to differentiate itself.

From what I have seen it does look pretty bad. Really floaty and low impact melee combat with health sponge enemies that take twenty swings each to kill. The magic gameplay looks better I guess but only relatively so.
Honestly I thought it made Veilguard's combat look good in comparison lol.

The better the combat looks, the more likely it's one of all of the following:
assasin creed-like 'push button to do [COOL THING]'
zero difficulty
zero depth
makes you fall asleep
The games that have good combat like archeage or wow look like a clown fiesta on a video, but are actually great when played
