Today in Silicon Continent I tell the astonishing story of the Italian Superbonus. How was the dumbest economic policy ever put in place and expanded by left, technocratic and right governments and not questioned by Brussels and Frankfurt?https://t.co/0Ha3w0I0tG

Seems unprecedented
Man I wish we could print money like that. Franks are blessed.
Renovation worth as much as a house is
How're they estimating fraud at just 5% of that lmao. Seems more like 60-70%, how tf do renovations cost as much as a built house+land?

Lol yeah, the italian
government was insanely r-slurred.
Theres also a program
where
you can lock in your tax amount (NOT RATE) at what you paid in the current year for the next one or two years. meaning that many construction
businesses who barely had any work during covid, who then took advantage of the 110% programs, basically barely paid any taxes and made a humongous amount of money
but also IMPORTANT CONTEXT ON HIGH RENOVATION PRICES: Italy
is completely FRICKED by overregulation. If you live in what is deemed a historically significant area(basically anything
that isnt a modern
new residential perifery of a city), you HAVE to follow
very, very strict rules
about what the house
can look like, and what features it has, and for ANY modifications you have to ask for permission from the county. Im speaking
from experience here.
It goes further. When we renovated, legally we werent allowed to make too many notifications, meaning that if we wanted to add a new window, or add solar
panels, or ANYTHING, you have to ask for permission.
we wanted to put in a curved railing on the balcony, the type that juts out a little
bit on the bottom. The architect
just sighed and said that it's not allowed. He could have petitioned the county, because fricking
90% of all the houses in the area have a fricking
curved balcony because who fricking
cares, but he just said it wasnt
worth the time, and we just decided to postpone it
THAT's why renovation is so expensive. Every single
step of the way you are delayed, inspected, reprimanded, you cant do anything
without approval

do it the indian way, build everything as you want, frick regulation and then apply for regularization after (grease some palms to get it done fast)

My landlady was telliing me she plans on expanding my unit(adding a balcony) but the guy below us is a lawyer so she's waiting for him to be out for a few months to do it lmao. I hope it happens after I've left, would hate to be dispossessed because of renovations that'll also increase the rent.
Also tbh tbh all you'll get to see from the balcony is pigeon shit stained walls of other apartments and pigeon shit stained floor(it'll also be covered in pigeon shit within a day) so IDK why she wants it. Foid moment tbh.

when my dad and gradparents built houses, they had to leave like minimum of 3-4ft all round the built up area as per the regulation. being 300+sq yards plots and two storeys it was not a big deal and there was not really a concept apartments to rent out in the 1990s that much. Now the rule of 4ft buffer is still there but everyone builds upto like 2cm to the plot line sometimes there is no compound wall at all just the walls of the building. its illegal but then they go and get it regularized. I can now jump from my house terrace into anyone's balconies if I wanted lol

Just do it anyway, since when does anyone in italy care about the law

I mean we did do a lot of that, and so does literally
everyone. But we already got police
called on us because we over-trimmed 3 trees
so it's very risky. The city is full of r-slurred
boomers who snitch
In Tuscany nobody would
ever even consider snitching because of a fricking
tree

Italy just needs to threaten the richer EUs with sending the migrants to them in exchange for money like Turkey.
