Very rare , unless you are a gangster or flaunting wealth in the open, violent crime is relatively relegated to shit places. You're very unlikely to be murdered as a tourist, bur nearly guaranteed to be robbed if you remain unwary. This was almost certainly a hate crime. Especially so soon after he had announced himself as a representative of gay queer Muslim.
